Untreated Injuries Could Develop Into Chronic Pain

You’ve probably heard the fact that car accidents, even ‘fender-benders’ can give you injuries that later develop into arthritis, pain or headaches. Sometimes an injury from a car accident has no symptoms for days, weeks or even months later. Even if you have no symptoms now it’s still a good idea to get a chiropractic exam. In British Columbia, there are as many as 650 car accidents per day.  Right after an accident, many people can be preoccupied with attending to insurance issues, auto repairs and stress. They often report they don’t feel like their normal selves and make the mistake of delaying getting professional diagnosis and treatment for their injuries. Many accident victims may not consider seeking an evaluation if they are not experiencing much pain or believe that the pain will just go away.  However, there may be internal damage to the spinal column and soft tissue injuries to muscles, discs and ligaments which can get worse with time.

How Chiropractic Helps

A chiropractor detects hidden injuries and structural damage to the body and spine and begins the documentation process of your injury for insurance claims.  Chiropractors specialize in correcting musculoskeletal misalignments and soft tissue damage, often found in injuries from auto accidents. At Coquitlam Family Chiropractic, Dr. Ali Amiri is passionate about helping patients recover from minor to chronic injury has successfully treated hundreds of patients of car accident injuries.

Common Injuries Dr. Ali Treats

Whiplash occurs when sharp and quick movements of the head going back and forth produce sprain of torn ligaments as well as sprain of muscles and tendons and can even occur in low impact crashes. Common symptoms associated with whiplash include neck aches, headaches, shoulder pain, neck rigidity, arm pain and lower back aches.  According to research, 43% of whiplash patients can suffer long-term symptoms and 93% showed improvement with chiropractic treatment.

Neck pain

The soft tissues of the neck containing muscles, ligaments and nerves and the joints and discs of the cervical spine can all be affected in the trauma of an automobile accident.   The pain can often spread on the shoulders, in the middle of the shoulder blades and up to the head.

Back pain

Back pain from a collision is also common, and can result from the body being twisted, compressed and/or stretched by the different forces acting on it, such as when the seat belt anchors a person’s lower back while the upper back and neck can experience whiplash.

Dizziness can be caused by spasms in the neck muscles or if there is a conflict between the messages sent to the brain from the eyes and neck versus the information coming from the inner ear.  Usually temporary, dizziness can also be helped with chiropractic adjustments.

Headaches are mostly attributed to soft tissue and joint injuries in the cervical spine (neck).  Treating the supporting areas of the head can help to alleviate headaches.

TMJ jaw pain

TMJ or temporomandibular joint dysfunction can occur from whiplash when the ligaments sprain in the joints of the jaw.  This can produce pain when chewing or a popping or cracking of the joints and headaches.

Your Car Accident Injury Recovery With Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is a natural, holistic option to help prevent inflammation and further injury occurring.   Pain is relieved through gentle adjustments to correct misalignments in the vertebrae and soft tissues in the neck and spine and X-rays are available on-site if required.
